The Knoxville Museum of Art (KMOA) is home to one of the largest and most diverse collections of art in East Tennessee. It is located at 1050 Worlds Fair Park Dr, Knoxville, TN 37916. It houses more than 20,000 works of art in its 34-acre campus, including a permanent collection that spans 5,000 years and features everything from ancient Egyptian artifacts to Western paintings. The museum is located within the historic Mechanics Building in downtown Knoxville. This historic building was constructed between 1876 and 1881 by Charles Blue and George L. Phillips for the Knoxville branch of the Farmers’ Loan and Trust Company. The building originally housed a bank, but after it closed in 1923, KMOA purchased the building from John Hessels for $1 and began renovations in 1927 with plans to transform it into a museum. The historic structure has been restored to its original glory and now houses one of the finest collections of art in East Tennessee.
